T-Shirt Quilts
Time has come to gather all those T-shirts that carry so much memory and transform them into a wall hanging or a quilt. These T-shirts can come from sporting events, camps attended, music or drama events, or just a special interest. What a great memory for a family member or yourself. Simple wall hangings can be done with as few as 4 T-shirts. Lap and full size T-shirt quilts can go up to include 30-40 shirts.
There are sashing (separating) strips between each trimmed square containing a logo or saying as well as a border. When thinking about the finished product, be thinking of what color you want to use. Usually a marbleized or tone on tone fabric works well for a t-shirt quilt. This would allow for a nice over-all look and not appear too busy.
In order to keep your t-shirt quilt cost down, a muslin backing is used and is very appropriate as the front is your focus. If you choose, a patterned fabric could be utilized -–it just brings the cost up. There are pluses whichever avenue you choose.
T-shirt quilt tops can be created by you and sent to me for finishing or send your laundered T-shirts to me and I’ll do all the work for you.
T-shirt quilts are time consuming so you will want to allow plenty of time for your treasure to be completed.
The easiest option for you is to send me your laundered T-shirts. Remember that permanent stains on them will probably bring back a memory of what occurred at that time. I will stabilize the T-shirts, frame them with sashings and borders. I’ll professionally quilt it on my long arm quilting machine utilizing either cotton or cotton/polyester blend batting. I will also apply a binding to complete the look.
In any event – don’t let this opportunity go by. The recipient will be glad those T-shirts are out of the box or closet and transformed into a keepsake.
